Well, only a few folks have these "mentor" Laurels but maybe a lot of the
Iris folks do. I wouldn't know. However, I would be interested in seeing
the typical procedure that the Laurels (or other formal judges) go through
when judging A&S contests. And yes, I am aware that letting the populace
in during actual judging could be inconvenient, restrictive or embarrassing.
I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to have a class or a discussion panel
done over this topic. Perhaps two displays could be created on a similar
topic and the teacher (or panel) could then discuss the good and bad
points of each. If there was time, having several arts, each with
good and better displays could be done. Perhaps leatherwork and
calligraphy or food, clothing and pottery.
I had finally worked up the courage to try a display at the recent
Gulf Wars populace contest and then it got rained out. Maybe some
time in the future I'll try again. But looking for good display and
documentation ideas in the meantime.
