As I suspected (this problem is pretty universal).  A few years ago I did the same
sort of survey through the Rialto, which reaches a lot more folks.  There were
some genuinely BAD peer stories; but not so many as the on-line rants would have
you believe.

Please be reassured, I was certainly not intending to rumor-monger, and I
apologize if any one else also saw it that way.  I has been my experience that
when you make people stop, think and try to put specifics to the generalized
problem they're carrying on about, they find that its not nearly so wide-spread
and is indeed out of the ordinary.  They also find that one or two truely terrible
incidents from the past are fueling the whole fire.

Let me be more positive:  Artisians, tell us all about your good experiences at
competitions; especially if you did not win, but still gained from the
experience.  These uplifting anecdotes will do a lot reassure others.
