No it wouldn't.  The current King can not succeed himself, because it is
prohibited by our organization's rules.  Therefore he can not be a
contestant for the Crown.  For a sitting Crown to enter the Crown List as a
contestant is an impropriety, not just a suspicion of impropriety.

While it may be gauche for the event steward or the A&S coordinator to enter
the competition, it is not prohibited unless written into the competition
rules.  

I've seen competitions where the A&S coordinator entered their work, just to
have more stuff on the tables.  I didn't perceive this as rigging.  I've
seen competitions where the A&S coordinator had no visible stake, but I
would swear the competition had been rigged to give the "right" people
visiblity in the A&S scene.  Right, wrong or indifferent, people have
perceptions.

Being that an A&S competition does not affect my life, health, wealth or
general well-being, I'm willing to let anyone compete.
