Yes, I am picky picky picky :) but the answer to your question is still yes
and no. They are period for later periods but not earlier but there is a
caveat to that answer. Thigh high boots are period but they don't look
exactly like the ones that are commonly used in the SCA. Typically, what I
have seen in portraits, illuminations, and tapestries, they have garters to
hold them up. But, I have not specifically studied these things so you might
be able to find evidence otherwise.
