No... Both consorts can fight for each other. Duchess Rowan fought her lord
Duke Hector in the final round she won many years ago. She was the first
queen by right of arms. Hope that answers your question...

Good Gentles,

I was trying to explain our society last night to a
co-worker and had told him about heavy lists. I told
him that there was not "handicapping system" to the
lists, rookies were often paired against Dukes or
Duchesses, and that there was no distinction between
male and female fighters. If you had the courage to
put on the armor and step on the field, you took the
same chances as everyone else.

The conversation got to how we "select" our crowns (or
rather they select themselves) and he asked a question
I had no answer for.

I had told him that every fighter must have "an
acceptable Consort of the opposite sex" to fight for
and serve with. He asked,"Could both the male and
female fighter compete in the list with the other as
potential Consort?"

With all due respect to Their Graces, a couple
shockingly similar to Duke Kein and Duchess Alecia,
immediately sprang to mind. Then, to carry the
logic(?) one step further, if they both made it to the
final round...?

I guess the real question is -- must one of the
fighter/consort pair be a non-combatant in that
particular list?

Thank you for your thoughts,

Cullinn
