Hello everyone  greeting from Willow de Wisp  a Laurel and one that help
create the two fields standard.

When we talk about having a second field we don't expect it to be at the
same level as your first field. What we are looking for is an interest in
something other than your main area. For years we have talked about the
Neanderthal fighter.  The fighter that says, "I only do fightn." but you
can have the Neanderthal artist. "I only do needlework." It is easy for
an artist to get so involved in their art that they have no time for
anything or anyone else. A laurel on the other hand must be able to judge
and appreciate and encourage all art forms. Ideally a Laurel should have
knowledge in more than two art forms. Three or more is needed to do a
good job as a Laurel.  The SCA is full of horror stories of young artists
put down by a Laurel who didn't care about any art form other than their
own. Asking for a second form is our way of trying to get Laurels that
will be flexible and understand there are more things out their than
their chosen field. I agree that any set rule will be the wrong thing to
do a certain amount of the time but this criteria was what the Ansteorra
Laurel came up with to solve the problem.
