ANST - What is a Peer?

Greetings and Hi There,

There has been much said about peerages and awards in general. Some folks
have them. Some folks want them. Some folks can't seem to get them.

How can some one go for years and years doing what we do without getting a
simple AoA? How can concert quality musicains go for years without even a
Thistle? And I'm sure we all know of examples of folks who have not gotten
the recognition they deserve. Why?

I think, in part, it's because it is far easier to say something nasty
about someone than to sit down and write something good about that person.
While anyone can make award recommendations, most groups don't have anyone
who keep track of who has what and what folks have been doing. How many
times have you been surprized to discover that so n so didn't have the award
you thought for a long time they did?

How many of you have ever written an award recommendation? And while doing
so have your eyes tear up so badly you couldn't see the monitor? That's a
well deserved award. Did it make you feel kinda good?

If you know someone who deserves an award, why not write it up, get teary
eyed and feel good about it. IMHO there is no such thing as too many well
desrved awards given out; only too many not written up.

Gilli
