Interesting. Does this mean that if the incoming Crown A chooses
not to give the outgoing Crown B a Patent that the next Crown, C
can't give B a Patent? It sounds like C could give a previous
Crown a Patent even if that Crown was not the directly preceding
Crown.

Furthermore, if this is true, then what keeps a new Duke from
giving himself a Patent for his previous term as Count if the
succeeding Crown(s) decided not to?
