Le Grand Dispute
May 4,5, 6, 2000


The Barony of Bryn Gwlad invites one and all to Le Grand Dispute, a display
of honor and prowess upon the rapier field.  Tributes and accolades shall be
given to those whose grace and skill impress House Moondragon and House Dore
as well as Their Ecellencies.  To honor the most worthy participant, her
Excellency, Baroness Jehanne d’Avignon, shall offer her glove to that
warrior who competes in all three of the tournament styles and whose conduct
on the field most impresses her.


Those wishing to participate in this most splendid tournament should gather
at the list field at 8:00 am to register, be inspected, and receive a gift
of coins for their participation in the tournaments.


CHESS TOURNAMENT MELEE
 House Dore and House Moondragon will invite each combatant to participate
in the melee as a chess pieces armed as follows:

CROWN:  case
BISHOP:  rapier & dagger
KNIGHT:  rapier & buckler
ROOK:  rapier & cloak
PAWN:  single rapier

Each major pice will be paired with a pawn.  Pawns will place secondary
weapons on the far edge of the field (i.e. you have to go through enemy
lines to get to it).   Their secondary will be the same as the major piece
with whom they are paired.  Pawns who can get to their own secondary may
pick it up and become a major piece. Major piece/pawn teams must stay
together until one is killed or the pawn becomes a major piece.  All else is
like a regular melee.  No movement restrictions, etc.


TOURNAMENT OF SKILL
The pairings shall be against members of the opposite pavilion for as long
as it is practical to do so.  The tournament shall be a double elimination
tournament, except if you are killed.  Those fighters who are killed are out
of the tournament, wounds are retained --- unless healed.   Double kills
mean that both fighters are dead --- no refights. Wounds CAN be healed by
the lady of the opposite pavilion.  The choice is up to her and those
sitting with her.  Those who are killed may ask to regain their life from
Her Excellency Jehanne.


CHALLENGE TOURNAMENT
 The day shall end with challenges between the two houses.  After weighing
the strengths of their guests throughout the day, Don Dore and Don Tivar
shall make challenges, both single and small melee with various weapons
styles in the field and at the barrier.  When you are chosen for a
challenge, you must declare your ransom value to all present prior to taking
the field.  Should you be defeated, you must pay your ransom to the one who
bested you.


OTHER ACTIVITIES
The Glovers Guild is hosting a competition in honor of St. Crispian.  All
are invited to enter their glove-related items.  Also, during your lunch
break, you are invited to bring your coins to vote on your favorite item.

The infamous Boars Breast Tavern will be open in the morning to provide you
with your hospitality coins and then available throughout the day to
atisfy  -any-  needs that you may have.

A splendid feast shall be presented by our cook, Lady Tabitha Baker.  The
feast shall be held on the tournament field and we would ask that you bring
your own tables and chairs.
