Stefan li Rous,
I would like to add, modify, or give alternatives to some of the signs
listed in the florigium. I developed in conjunction with ASL interpreters
some signs I use for SCA terms. Some of the ones listed in your florigium
have some conceptual flaws, and should be modified. Some are not needed if
the interpreter is speaking in ASL.
Simple examples would be Chiergeon... the sign that is segested is a place
sign not a person sign. A simple change would be to make a "c" on the inside
of the wrist, like doctor"d" or nurse"n".Even a person with no SCA
experience would translate that sign as a person in the health field. Duke,
which uses a sign realated to the shape of the coronet does not translate to
a person with no SCA experience, however a 'D' down the sash translates a
person of importance who's title starts with a "d". Even an non SCA person
will get that.
for those who do not know how ASL is spoken her is an example of an AOA done
in ASL.
All(showing a group) learn King (point at king)Queen(point at queen)command
(point at person)have AOA given now all(showing group again).
short and sweet, that is ASL
your servant,
mahee
yes I know I am blathering on again, and still cannot spell. the scary thing
is that I have gotten better.
