opinion, but sound common sense ...
last time i was tasked with being a editor, i was elected in
abstentia (late to the meeting ... a lesson there folks) and accepted
only after the person who proposed me "volunteered" (ie: dragooned)
his computer as a backup system.
was a simple matter to keep the software versions i was using common
on our systems (not a problem, both were doing publication work &
support). the actual publication data and "issue in progress" was
backed up on offline media that both systems could use. today it's
even easier ... in situations like this i simply use a bit of my ISP
storage share as a data area i can access from any computer i logon
to ...
