Just curious.....but what does being located near a "state or federal
prison" have to do with this thread and the art of site selection?
We have one of the best sites in the Known World in The Barony of Ravens
Fort and have 9 (at last count) TDCJ prison units within 10 miles of the site.
As well as a solid 25 percent of the Barony working for TDCJ.
However, we are limited to holding only 4 events per year by the land
owners due to impact upon the land and livestock on the Stones site.
Please keep in mind these questions, are honest questions. I am not
slamming one for asking, only seeking to understand the statement.
BTW, there is not rule or policy or anything other than ease of use and
location that has drawn various groups to the Canton site.
I personally know of one very nice site in West Texas that can be had for
song and a dance. However, it is a long way from anything else and I am not
sure about camping on site.
Ravens Fort choose the Athens site for TRM's coronation only because we
could not get anything else closer.
A facility such as one that can handle 500-600+ people is booked often 6
months to a year in advance, especially for certain weekends and times of
the year.
I would suggest that if groups are looking or even remotely thinking about
events and where to hold them, think way in advance and book the site
early. You can always back out or cancel the site. Most sites will even
refund deposits if canceled in a timely manner.
