Great Western War IV in CAID
Oct 5 thru 8

Combat Missile events

-----------------------------

There are several events scheduled at GWW this year for combat missile
fighters. For events that include combat, all participants are expected to
arm and armor themselves to the standards of their home kingdom, with two
exceptions: 1) no low profile thrusting tips on any weapons; 2) heavy combat
archery and siege will be according to current Caidan standards. There will
be no light or non-contact combatants (archers, scouts etc).

For a guide to Caid missile rules and more detailed descriptions of the
events, please see the GWW website at www.greatwesternwar.com, or contact the
deputy steward for CA and Siege events, Morgan the Fellwalker, at
siegebow at aol.com or (909) 929-4088 (before 9pm Pacific).

On Thursday afternoon an IKCAC range (Inter-Kingdom Combat Archery
Competition) will be set up near the main battlefield. It may also be
available at other times during the weekend. All SCA legal equipment is
allowed.

On Friday at Noon there will be a Yeoman Tourney, held on the
battlefield at eitherthe bridge or the castle. Lists and marshals inspection
opens at 11 a.m. Participantsshould be armed with a bow, 6 arrows or bolts,
and secondary hand weapons (secondary weapons must be carried or slung).
Archers without secondary weapons may also compete, but will be considered
defeated if combat goes to "hand-to-hand".

This will be fought in round robin tourney format, and prizes will be awarded
to the most chivalrous, most courteous display to a consort, best field
appearance, crack shot (most kills with the least arrows). Please support
this type of tourney by sponsoring a prize or volunteering your time to help
with marshaling, lists or waterbearing.

On Saturday morning, the third annual Siege Weapons Competition is
scheduled to take place on the open field. Weapons may begin setting up at 8
a.m. with the eventscheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Both "one-on-one" (weapon)
combat and 30, 50 and 70 yards targets will be part of the competition.

At 10 a.m. Saturday at the IKCAC range, there will be a roundtable
discussion and demonstration of new combat arrow designs; blunts, nocks,
ABDs, bows and ancillary equipment (archer shields etc.). Equipment does not
have to be SCA approved or war legal, as it will not be used incombat. Please
share your new ideas to improve combat archery performance and safety. If
you cannot attend you can send your designs with someone else, or mail them
prior to the event with a description of what it does and how it's
constructed. If you are a combat archer or marshal, please come to share
in the discussion even if you don't have a design to show.
