Okay, I'll try my hand at it. My husband and I played for about a year and
a half with no membership. The rewards to that were a lot of fun. This
part is easy.
The rewards to having a paid membership, the newletter coming in regularly
so you know where you want to go, who to advise and make reservations with,
and trying to get a carload easier than at the last minute. Next, the
different publications you get. We made a mistake the first year and got
not only the Touney Illuminated by also got The Complete Anachronist. Boy
did this open my eyes about "period things." Next, here in the Western
Region everywhere the Baron and Baroness of Bonwicke go there is a drawing
from all the "paid membership" for a prize. I just won a wonderful book
about Vikings. Again it opened a whole new area for me as I am not a Viking
and had never planned to be one. Finally, I have the personal satisfaction
that I get a discount at Gulf War (which I have not missed since I started
playing) and a few other events. Our local shire at one event planned to
have a separate donation made at the event (guessing who the murderer was in
our play) that was to have been for a paid membership, but the one time it
snowed out here wouldn't you know it was the night before our event. VERY
FEW CAME, so the money was donated to the Salvation Army along with the toys
we had collected for Christmas the same day. Aren't these benefits?!
