I agree 100%, and can speak from experience. When I first discovered the
SCA, an independent income was a concept my father often talked about with
me, but I never really got. But, as time went on, and I gained maturity, I
found an income necessary. When I was able to afford the garb I wanted, I
discovered that I was also able to afford membership. And, a great
membership incentive IS the kingdom news letter. At first, the only reason I
had a membership was for the Blackstar. But, as time progressed, I felt a
pride in my responsibility. So, I believe that those who play without a
membership may not be able to afford one, and if they could, would have one.
And, we who do pay for a membership should not tell those without, "Eat Cake."
As the old saying goes, "There is no shame in being poor, just dressing
proorly."
