I have driven from Texas to Mississippi a few times and have not had any 
problems, except to be sure you have plenty of gas after dark.  Use your 
common sense on speed.  The bridges over the swamp have phones periodically 
for emergencies.  Also watch for fire ants if you have to get out anywhere
