Greetings Amy from Stefan li Rous,
Welcome to the SCA!
You ask some questions that are likely to have a number of different
answers depending upon whom you are talking to.
For an overview of the SCA system and other information useful for newcomers,
you might want to look at these files in the NEWCOMERS section of my
Florilegium files:
SCA-intro-art (23K) 11/14/95 An Introduction to the SCA.
4-newcomers-msg (27K) 12/29/99 Comments directed at SCA newcomers.
intro-books-msg (36K) 6/ 8/99 Recommended books on the Middle Ages
and
Renaissance.
This file in the FEASTS section might be useful in gathering together the
utensils you need for the usual SCA feast.
feastgear-msg (29K) 11/16/98 Obtaining feastgear for use in the
SCA.
cleaning wooden feastgear.
While only covering a small part of being Crown, this file in the SCA-INC
section might also be of interest:
crown-cost-msg (19K) 7/13/99 The monetary and other costs of
being a
crown in the SCA.
While this file discusses the traits of a good Baron/Baroness rather than
the Royalty, it may also be of use:
Baronial-Lead-art (18K) 5/30/97 "Principles of Leadership and a
Baron/ess"
by Conor mac Cinneide.
My Florilegium also has files on a large variety of SCA and medieval
subjects so perhaps there are other files that might be of interest to you.
Other sections include: BEVERAGES, ARCHERY, FOOD, FEASTS, CLOTHING, TEXTILE
ARTS, PERFORMANCE ARTS, PENNSIC, SCA STORIES, SCRIBAL ARTS, HERALDRY,
COMBAT and others.
My Florilegium can be found on the web at: http://www.florilegium.org
Please feel free to email me if you have any other questions.
