there are some email clients that, as a convenience to older. less
capable clients, will send a second, clear-text version of HTML
formatted mail.  it's a nature of the client, not the digestor / list
processor.
 
since the problem is with digested messages, perhaps the focus should
be finding a digest program better suited to handling modern, real
world messaging (and this includes the RTF and HTML formats .. that
will not be going away anytime soon) .. there should be some
intelligent enough to convert HTML / RTF into plain text.
