Good for you My Lady--

I was not at Warlord , but have found this level of rudeness at almost all
the events that I have attended over the past few years. If you say
anything you are told to move and if you don't you are asked why you didn't.
This also applies for those who leave their young children to run wild at
the back of the hall during court. (NOT those who sit at the back of the
hall out of courteously and control their children. Who then can not hear
either.) Have we lost interest in what's happening or have some of us become
so petty that it is the only way they can enjoy an event is by ruining it
for others.
Mind I have kids and sometimes they have to be shhhed during court, but
they keep their sits and sulk where they sit. And if I feel I want to
comment on an award I try to do so quietly . I hate to think that this level
of pettiness is what we have digressed to.

	Christant

I had a wonderful weekend at Warlord, in spite of
weather. I always do. It is one of my all-time
favorite events.
However, an incident occurred in Court Sunday
evening that left a very nasty taste in my mouth,
and could have ruined the whole thing if I had
let it, or perhaps if I had been a newcomer to
this Game:

First of all, I will not use names of anyone who
was involved in this; some I do not know, some I
do not wish to know!

I was sitting close to the back of the Court,
next to two ladies, one of them a Laurel. Behind
me were several members of the rapier community,
including a Dona. They were talking very loudly,
making very catty comments, and it was very hard
to hear what was happening in Court. I was just
about fed up and had decided I needed to move,
when the lady next to me turned around to them
and said "Sssshhhhh!"
One of the so-called "gentlemen" turned and asked
if she had sprung a leak. She and both said,
simultaneously,"We can't hear Court!" He told us
we needed to move closer.
We both set and fumed for awhile, then she and
her companion (the Laurel) were called into
Court. As they left he said "Oh, (explete
deleted), don't tell me that fat cow is getting a
award!" When asked by someone else who he was
speaking of, he said "That bloated pustule that
told me to shut up! How about we split her open
and see what she is made of?"
I almost went to His Majesty for redress of the
situation, then and there. I moved, instead.

This was not pretty. It was not chivalrous, nor
honourable. It was disgusting, and I am sick to
my stomach as I write this, just thinking about
it.
If you recognize yourself as one of the
participants, good! Think long and hard about how
this could have affected a newcomer. If you are
the Dona involved, think about the example you
are supposed to be setting for the rapier
community, and what you might have done to stop
such behaviour. Think long and hard, also, about
such behaviour around me again, because next time
it will not pass without redress.
I cry pardon now for posting this to the list. It
is nasty. It was mean and lowly. And it needed to
be told.
