For those who would like to take advantage of Lady Innes' generous
offer (I wish I lived closer to her), but who are uncertain how they
would turn these "gunked" horns into finished ones, this file in
the CRAFTS section of my Florilegium files has instructions on
how to clean the horn as well as how to work it:
horn-msg (96K) 1/ 7/00 Working with horn. drinking horns.

This file gives another use for the horn material once you've cleaned
it:
Horn-Spoons-art (9K) 1/ 5/00 "Making Horn Spoons" by Mistress
Gunnora
                                       Hallakarva.

And this file has some information on turning left over horn scraps into
glue:
glues-msg (33K) 8/ 4/99 Medieval glues and pastes. Recipes.

And if I remember correctly, this file in the NORSE section details how
the Norse reshaped the horns into drinking vessels:
N-drink-ves-msg (9K) 10/16/96 Norse drinking vessels.

The Florilegium is on the web at: http://www.florilegium.org
