This might be a bit impertanent but... Why is it so
important to get to know nobles and peers? As a
newcomer back in the dark ages we worked at avoiding
the notice of nobles... they might ask you to carry
something ;-) It feels more "period" to be distant
from the higher ups especially as a new person.

It has been my experience that getting to know people
is a natural progression. The longer you are around
the more people you get to know.

I would rather encourage non nobles and non peers to
get to know newcomers because they generally have more
time to offer to help them along and are "more in
touch with what it means to be new" (no offence
intended to the nobles and peers ;-)
