I never advocated using them in any particular place; I was merely providing
the information to anyone who might be interested.  I myself was interested
because of the recent discussion about the cedilla, and also because my
sister sometimes forwards quotations to me in Spanish, which I can read just
fine, but can't respond to accurately without the special characters.
Though I understand there is some sort of ASCII notation which the heralds
use to convey the special characters; I am not privy to such, and doubt my
sister would care to change; hence, I'd have to learn two systems.

I understand your difficulty with this sort of thing, however, and applaud
you for your efforts with the Florilegium.  It is not an undertaking I would
dare attempt.

On the other hand, technology changes in spurts, sometimes slowly, sometimes
rapidly.  Eventually, it catches up to where most people are on an even
keel.  Though there are those of us who still like our vinyl albums, pop in
an 8-track, or crank up the old Victrola.  I still have a small black &
white t.v. which I use on occasion.

This is why it is strongly NOT encouraged to use special characters
and formatting on email going to newsgroups and mail lists.

The special characters, even if the person on the other end has the
special fonts required, will often get messed up by the programs that
translate the mail messages into the digest form.

Please use only plain ASCII text and don't simply copy info from
Word (or other word processing programs) or from Web pages. Often
the operating systems (including Microsofts absurdities) can not
do a clean job of converting formatted text to plain text when
copying and pasting.

While the fancy characters, pretty colors and pictures are nice and
often useful, please save them for private email.
