... Would you be annoyed if you recieved an issue of the Black Star
that had no room for more than one event announcement, as that one was 10
or 15 pages long? I suspect you would.

not really, the BS is has in my opinion become a expensive, increasingly
problematic and useless appendage .. but that's another issue entirely i
don't care to discuss (to much emotional involvement prone to developing
into yet anotehr pointless falme-fest)

comparing this channel with the BS is like comparing apples and oranges ...
i would be more annoyed if the *general* persona play filled up
ansteorra-announce, which is a much better analogy for the online versiuon
of the blackstar. this channel (ansteorra) is (and has historically been)
more akin to a random group of scadians sitting around the fires at an
event, and conversing on whatever comes along of importance / general
interest / dicussion of deep issues and shallow / general silliness /
attempts at alternative creativity. all in all a pleasant *mix*

* .... Quite true. Does this mean it is your opinion that I should
either a) delete 80% or more of this list every day, or b) get event
announcements and nothing else, having no other options?

one mans noise is anothers information / enjoyment. whose standards apply
for the populace? yours because your are overly annoyed by trivial things?
this is one of thsoe slippery slopes that can quickly lead to restrictive
censorship which is never a good thing ... methinks you are taking this all
way too seriously.

* ... I believe in the validity of majority opinion regarding what is
proper for a public forum. If it is the will of the majority that I
either put up with my mailbox being flooded with things that (in my
opinion) have nothing whatsoever to do with my reasons for subscribing,
or unsubscribe, very well. If that is the consensus, I will not trouble
you further.

welcome to the real world ...

it was YOUR will to subscribe to a free flowing, general-format list. YOU
can turn it on, you can turn it off ... it is not really appropriate to take
others to task for the amount / quantity of mail in your personal box from a
list freely joined (many free tools avaialble to automatically process it
all). the basic credo at work here, you want the "pearls of the chi, you
wade through the mud of the li" or "chop wood, carry water, read mail"

in the grande nature of things, it is not appropriate to expect that the
list change for your personal convenience (opinions of a ex-bbs sysop, past
opus/fido echo moderator, and operator of lists elsewhere).

if it really bothers you so much, these days it's a trivial thing to start
one yourself (ansteorra-nofun ????) and moderate it however you desire and
let people "vote with their feet", but i doubt it would be a popular or high
subscription list, nor do i think this one would suffer from it.

'wolf
... who has better things to do than worry overly much about than such
trivial matters
