My Dearest Contessa,

I was finally released from jail, after many questions at the hands of the
guard.  I am still recovering from this recent ordeal.   But, am fine now.
Francis has not found the authors of the messages that landed me there in
the first place. But I have begun to suspect that Rosie and her girls view
us as more of a threat than I first thought. The note I found that finally
cleared my name was signed only with initials.  I find it highly convenient
that Rosie employs a D and an L, in the form of Desmond and Lizzy.  Contact
our little informant and see what information has been passed on.  Take Lod
with you this time for I need Francis by my side to protect me from further
harassment by that vile woman Lt. Salamanca.  While trying to persuade me to
confess, she damn near broke my jaw.  And now I think she holds me
responsible for her imagined failure to see me hang.  I swear, Contessa, if
the Dove wasn't
so near completion, I would move us once more. Maybe to the kingdom of
Trimaris, as I hear they are more open to a bawdy lifestyle.  But, alas, I
had to choose this place.  I know, not all has been peaches and cream with
you.  The last encounter with that wench Isobel's father at the butcher shop
sounded horrible.  Then our meat order was filled with rancid meat was the
last straw.  Unfortunately, we have no outlet for our grievances with the
whole Barony siding with Rosie's crew.  Have Ratliff hire us one of his
dodgy friends.  I know he thinks highly of the street boy Vincent.  Send
them to my rooms, as I will have work for them.  Trust no more letters and
put nothing in them that we wouldn't want public knowledge. When Ratliff and
Vincent arrive I will inform them of their duties.  In any event by tomorrow
we should see an end
to most of our problems.  I look forward to seeing you later this night when
we have our meeting.  I will close now as I am not feeling well and my last
ale left me with a bitter taste.
