On the news last night here in Dallas it was reported that schools where to
start there return to school no earlier then Aug 21. Several leaders from
both sides said this was a mistake and in general I agree with them, that if
we want it left for the state and the schools to handle like it was said
during the elections then they shouldn't have made this ruling.
Now to the soap box speech your right that initially some students do do
better but this depends on the studend not if their two week late or from
the start. I was one of the students late to start and I finish in the top
20% of my class and when on to college and finish in the top 25%. In general
it was not a fair that made me late but I prefered to stay at the gym to
work-out for football (even if the gym was at school I didn't go to class
for a week or two.) Now saying this, I don't believe now it was the right
thing to do or the best of ideas but some studends don't need the first week
or two to succeed but a good many of the students do need the first few days
because it helps them to set their daily needs for the school year.
I will state this: at the time I was in school it was not important to me
because I played football and I didn't have trouble with studies and having
to do homework (I just remembered every thing showed to me and I could use
it later) and I was helping the ones who were there from the start with what
I though were silly questions but I help them without a laugh because most
of the kids there having the troubles where my friends. Now I believe School
should come first to get ahead in life because there isn't that many people
who can do what I did and get away it when you think how many people there
are in the world and I remember how much more I could have help my friends.
I had a 3.25 gpa in high school and a 3.95 gpa in College.
