To all good gentiles of Ansteorra:

Two years ago the internet, I found a company that makes boots & shoes.
The company is called Nativearth (nativearth.net). After much
trepidation & many phone calls, I commissioned a pair of poulaines
(Pointy-toed shoes) to be made to the measure of my feet. To my joy,
the ankle boots arrived & were (& are) wonderful. This year, they have
come to the Texas Renaissance festival. It has been great to actually
meet the people that I e-mailed & spoke with. I always thought that
they were nice people.

I have told many of the people I have seen in Stargate and at Renfair
of them. Their booth is opposite the Odeon Stage & is named "Olde
Soles", but it also says Nativearth. I recommend anyone wishing to buy
shoes to talk to Jim or Ann & see what they have. Their prices are
roughly half those of Bald Mountain, & they have several period styles.

I ordered some boots Saturday. I have waited to write this until I
actually went through the process. My foot was measured and a white
tape cast of my foot was made. besides being a sizing tool, the details
of the boots were drawn on the cast, so there is an accurate
understanding of exactly what I want. We also discussed the way my
shoes wear on the heel & what can be done for it. They also carry
several of their shoes in standard sizes. They have thanked me for
telling my friends about them, but I told them that it was for the sake
of my friends that may have similar needs. I don't think I've ever had
too much information about SCA related merchants, & often found almost
none.

Sir Alexis tells me that boots & shoes are easy to make, & I know some
people who have made their own. My problem seems to be the tuits. I
have armor revisions almost completed, but can't get a round tuit. (If
anyone has a supply, PLEASE let me know.)

Sir Wiliam of Weir
