I think it would be perfect for their to be a "standard" Ansteorran
gauge
with all the things needed. I have seen quite a variation in gauges.
Pass
one place fail another. Let us take this to the Marshals page to
decide on
the design and how to purchase them.

Everyone joining in is one of the points of bardic circles.

While I agree that its better for people to have things memorized, there

Since this is the case, would they be able to have lettering put on/in

As well as arrow/bolt head diameters, insides of fiberglass spears and
stricking edges.

[Carl Chipman] Insides of fiberglass spears should actually be 1". The
total diameter is 1.25", and with .125" on either side, that only leaves
1".

> 1" bar for checking helm bar spacing
> 5/32" 1/8" and 3/32" wall thickness checks for fiberglass spears=85

Don't we only need 1/8"? What are the others for?

[Carl Chipman] Cause nothing is perfect :) Ansteorra's exact wordings
of the rules on fiberglass spears state in one clause that the wall
thickness must be no more that 1/8" thick. In another clause, it states
that the wall thickness can be no more than 1/8". Since it is almost
utterly improbable that ANYTHING will be EXACTLY 1/8", Sir Wilhelm added
in 1/32" of leeway on the standard. 1/8" plus or minus 1/32 gives us
3/32" for the minimum wall thickness, and 5/32" for the maximum wall
thickness. The gauge has a graduated stepping, so that if doesn't go
in, its too thick, if it goes in to the first notch (5/32") its above
but within range, if it goes in to the second notch, its ok, and if it
goes into the 3rd notch, its too small.

Can we add 5/16" and 1/4" for wood and fiberglass arrows/bolts
respectively?

[Carl Chipman] lemme post the picture, and I'll see. It may drive the
price up, and we'd have to find a place on the gauge to put it.

[Carl Chipman] I'll ask.

It is possible to bring quite small children to events, and camping
events.
Planning is the key (isn't it always? <G>) Pets are a little more
difficult,
with many events publishing "No pets" on the event announcements.

I haven't wanted to sleep on the ground in quite a while. Tivar and I
went
to a Real Bed at TFYC and haven't looked back since. It makes a real
difference. But then, we're willing to have a van and, at need, a
trailer to
bring everything we need for comfort and children.

Someone else (Luciano?) mentioned sponsorship of others. I like this
idea.
We have "sponsored" a number of people over the years, though not
formally,
and it seems to work pretty well.

One reason folks have tended to pack up and leave Saturday evening is
that
there's nothing to stay for on Sundays. Sundays in the Old Days (<G>)
were
for pick-up fights, socializing, and other not-so-structured things when
events were less plentiful and there were people there you hadn't seen
in
six months. Perhaps some of the event's activities could be planned for
Sunday as well as Saturday.

I once woke up a camp with something akin to: "Oyez, oyez! The time is
now
seven of the watch, the day dawns bright and cheerful. One hour until
armor
inspection. Two hours until morning court. Three hours until Merchants
Row
opens, where you can acquire your very own life-size likeness of the
wake-up
herald. This missive brought to you by the Interkingdom Archery
Competition. That is all."

No one threw or shot anything at me at all. I was, however, offered
coffee
three times and breakfast once. And got a lot of laughs. (OT note:
there's
a reason the morning shows on the radio are generally funnier than the
shows
throughout the day. Same principle works for the SCA too.)
