Being newly handfasted on Feb. 23rd, this "hook" got me. :)
I met my lord, HL Thorgard inn Svarti, at the last 9 Worthies tournament
held at the Stones of Ravensfort in 1994. My now ex-husband told me he had
a fighter friend who had injured his knee. Did I have some ibuprofen he
could have and could I look at it for him? We were packing up to leave and
the last thing we did was go find him. He was sitting rather forlornly in a
chair, sort of staring at his leg. I introduced myself, thinking "My
Goodness, he's a *big* guy!" and tended his leg for him. He seemed to be so
grateful for the fussing and was so gentle spoken for such an obviously
powerful man. I was most impressed by his demeanor. My marriage was pretty
much dead by that time although we tried another 3 years to salvage the
dregs of it and my friendship with Thorgard continued to grow. The long and
the short of it is that first kind act grew to a lasting friendship first,
then into mutual admiration and respect, then into love and now into a
handfasting. I have been married twice before this and honestly I have
never been so in love nor felt so loved as I do by this gentle, honest,
dependable man. My handfasting was witnessed by many and I can truly say
that because of the SCA I have finally a chance at true happiness in a
relationship. The funny thing is that Thorgard and I have been in each
other's vicinity on and off again for nearly 20 years, often within just a
mile or two of each other, yet it took a chance meeting over a slight injury
for us to find each other. I guess the time was just right. I for one, am
grateful beyond words that the meeting did happen.

Dear God, Help me to be the person
my dog thinks I am. Amen
