[Ansteorra] History/Enculturation/Cliquishness....

I have to disagree with the thought that Ansteorra is losing its
chivalry. I am lucky enough to be aquainted with people who will bend over
backwards to help a lady or anyone that needs it. Personally, when I attend
a camping event, I need so much help that it often cuts into my husband's
"fun" time. But he has never complained, never once suggested I should not
accompany him. If you see Don Hawkins at an event with his wife, you know
he is working hard all weekend. I would like as well to mention some of my
other SCA family members who, to me, embody the concept of chivalry. Don
James Navarre, Don Puck, Walter Robin, Don Timothy, and any number of lords
and ladies from the great shires of Mooneschadowe and the Wastelands. As
someone with disabilities, I can truly say that the spirit of chivalry is
alive and well in Ansteorra. One lady suggested that perhaps the highly
placed or well-known receive more assistance, but I am neither of these
things. I have never carried, carted, or wheeled my supplies at an event
without being asked if I needed assistance, whether by someone I knew or by
a lord or lady who was a complete stranger.
I only hope our new home in An Tir has half as much of this vital
quality as our Ansteorran home. Just remember, you can't be helped if you
don't ask. Help should be rewarded with generous thanks, as well. Our
people are chivalrous, and they are heroes. They are not psychic friends.
