[Ansteorra] History/Enculturation/Cliquishness....

I don't often speak up on the lists, but I do have
something to say on whether or not chivalry is dead.

Many an event has gone by that I have not touched the
food I brought with me to an event because so many
kind people have offered me refreshments. Some events
I have barely even unpacked my car because some gentle
had set up an extra tent or other such thing that I
didn't need to use my own. I remember one occasion
when an SCA friend who was waiting on me to get going
(waiting because I'm slightly obsessive that I MUST
pack supplies to deal with any situation I'm faced
with) looked right at me and said "It's the SCA! If
you forget something, someone there will have it and
help you, so quit worrying!" and I had to admit that
this was probably true.

One Gulf Wars during the ravine battle, I had dragged
my ice chest a mere 10 yards from my tent to use to
sit on to watch the battle. A fighter who had *just*
collapsed onto the ground, redfaced and dripping with
sweat after a good long battle saw me start to pick up
my ice chest and sprang up to carry it for me.

I haven't been in the SCA too long, so I can't compare
it to the times past, but in my opinion, chivalry is
not dead.

We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown
Till human voices wake us, and we drown.
