Dear BoD,

As events are getting more and more expensive, it is getting harder and
harder to afford attending. That said, I have a family of five, and
thus am not paying for only one. Yes, I have membership for all of the
members of my family, but if I did not...that would be an extra $15 per
event.

I do not have a problem with a surcharge, but as stated above, it makes
it so families are much less likely to attend events. I know that if
you attend one event every month, it would have payed to have baught
membership if you could have saved that much up...to buy membership for
a family is no small chunk of change.

Aah, but there is family max you add...not all groups use it...and I
have still payed close to $100 for an event for 5 gates and 5 feasts.

I have also been told by groups that give membership discounts that it
does not apply to people who have to pay family max...so I still pay
full price.

And then there is inviting people to come join us...Gets expensive.

So as prices go up from $5 gate and $5 feast to $8 gate and $8 feast my
family since I have membership for all five of us once payed $15 gate
and $25 feast (totaling $40/event) to $24 gate and $40 feast (totaling
$64/event) and then you add a $3 surcharge per nonmember if my
membership lapses to $79 for an event...It makes it very hard for any
large family to attend.

One retort I often hear is that it is still cheaper than going to a
ball game or the local theme park...well my family goes to neither. So
the retort only proves my point.

So although I have no problem with a surcharge...prices should be
thought of not for an individual, but for a family and then see if the
request is still reasonable.

your servant,
mahee
