I got this from another list I'm on, and thought
I'd pass it along. It looked Interesting.

On September 7th and 8th, 2002, in Denver, Colorado,
USA, Bob Charron of St. Martin's Academy of Medieval
Arms will teach a two day seminar on the information
contained in the early 15th Century (1409) Italian
fighting manual 'Flos Duellatorum' (Flower of Battle).

The Flos is approximately 70 pages long and contains
text and illustrations which describe a body of
martial knowledge based on specific principles. The
system described by this manual begins with unarmed
grappling and striking and progresses through dagger,
short sword, long sword, spear, and poleaxe, finishing
up with mounted combat. This is a fascinating glimpse

into the level of martial knowledge available to
European warriors in the Middle Ages and is strong
evidence for the existence of a larger body of
knowledge.

The seminar will introduce students to the concepts
and organization of the Flos, as well as putting it
into an historical context, with the aim of enabling
the student to continue their study on their own. The
instructor, Bob Charron, has spent several years
translating, interpreting, and practicing the
techniques put forth in this document. He is
publishing two volumes sometime in the Fall of 2002
which will present his findings.

Thanks for reading this far, here's the payoff for
your patience. A version of the Flos Duellatorum is
available online (in PDF format), for free. Go to the
AEMMA website and go the library section. The Flos is
located in the 15th Century section.
