[Ansteorra] Things to think about....

Dear Gilli

You are absolutely right. People do accuse people of doing things only
for awards. It is a political technique which works only against people
who care. People who are doing things for awards don't worry about it at
all. I hate this political technique. I have seen so many GOOD people
destroyed by it or stopped in their tracks. The only way I have been able
to deal with it is to call it for what it is- a harassment political
method. I believed that people who do this method, either on purpose or
by ineptude should been confronted and informed on how destructive this
political method is. If you don't like a project you should argue against
the project not attack the individual doing the project. While it is
almost impossible to protect ourselves from this political method we can,
as third parties, protect others. It is important that we speak up in a
polite way against improper politics. Sometime I say "What wrong in
seeking an award if the person has a good idea and is willing to do
work?" or I say "When person in a group advances everybody has a better
chance to get awards." or I just comment that seeking an award has no
bearing on the value of the project. Sometimes I mention that Ansteorra
is not a sum zero game and there is room for everyone to advance and I am
happy when people get things. When it has been used against me I just
laugh and inform them I am not a sucker for that political technique. We
need to make sure that these people do not drive us away from working on
projects that are valid.
