cheap hardware device available at most electronis stores that fit's
between your phone and them ... sends the autodialers they use a
"line disconected" tone that usually gets your number dropped from
the call queue.  so far the one i'm using does not interfere with the
 side of my line, the answering machine, the modem
dialout/auto-answer or the dsl data side. found it at "best products"
a while back ...

and texas now has a state level "do not call list" that they are
legally bound to respect (and if not yuo have ammunition for a legal
settlement from them)  .. though it costs to be (un)listed
