[Ansteorra] Query...

I joined because I thought it interesting to be a part of such an
interesting and diverse group. I'd seen a video of an SCA war and it
just captured my imagination, much like Highlander (the movie) had.
What kept me in was that I found I really liked ax throwing and,
especially, charter painting. And for once, I felt that I had niche, a
place that I could belong. The warm encouragement I had along the way
helped tremendously, too. : ) I will admit, though, feeling on the
outside until I found charter painting and that was when I felt I
belonged.

If we want to keep people in, we need to help them explore the diversity
of the SCA, from fighting to water bearing to charter painting, etc.
*Inviting* them to try it, and then give encouragement, lots of it, for
them to keep it up and/or to try new things. Sometimes I think we
expect them to just find their way, and I think that that's one way we
might be losing some of the newcomers.

Just a thought,

Curstaidh
