You're right, you're right... as always!

I was thinking of trying to switch them over to Sunday afternoons,
coincidental with either fighter practices or Lady Francesca's picnics...
the only issue I'd have with the singalongs is that I often cannot get
there, either due to distance or due to conflicts. But I can try to work
around those...

Karen's told me she's interested, Barb's said she's interested AND working
on some period plays... Noble's interested, and I think Clare. Wisdom
suggests that I leave it limited to Steppes, rather than try to cross both
Steppes and Elfsea.

Hey, speaking of meetings... I can't always get out to Eastfield (Mesquite's
a looooong trip from my house), but do you ever go to the Glaslyn shoots? I
can't fight worth diddly (I tried rapier and wound up paying for it big
time), but I used to be a decent archer when I was younger... and would like
to try again. Think I could impose on you AFTER Warlord to teach me? And
eventually Tony, after his surgery? Please?

Thanks, James. I appreciate the encouragement more than you realize...

I understand your frustration. As the leader of the Steppes Bowyers and
Fletchers Guild I never know from one month to the next how many will show
up for a meeting. I have had more often than not just myself and one or two
others show up and then out of the blue I'll have 15 for one meeting and
than back to one or two. I have had to cancel several meetings because of my
own or event related scheduling conflicts and we are trying a new night to
avoid those.
What it comes down to is that if you believe it is a worthwhile project then
you must be patient. Continue to talk it up to everyone you know. Look for
alternative meeting places and times. Most things do not spring up full
grown they have to be nurtured by someone who believes in their worth.
I know of several people who would like to participate in your new guild.
Before you give up talk to Claire about sharing some time at the singalongs.
This was discussed at the last singalong. Before you get to upset, talk to
people. You may just need a little more time to let the idea grow.

I have to agree with the statement that people sometimes find it 'too much
like work.' Having made an attempt to start a thespian group and getting
precisely nowhere - for instance, I announced a meeting a good two weeks in
advance and not a single person showed up. Only one person had the common
courtesy to let me know she could not make it. A few have told me they'd
LIKE to do it, but I've yet to see those people. One lady was kind enough to
explain her delay, for which I thank her, but the rest...

If you will pardon my candidness, this doesn't exactly encourage someone to
organize anything, your Grace. I have to admit, I'm feeling extremely
frustrated... and it leads me to wonder if it's worth my time to try to do
anything new if this is the result. I do realize this is a bad attitude, but
still... perhaps this is the feeling shared by others.

Any advice on how to combat this?

Other aspects of it have to do with the 'time saving modern convieniences'
that seem to create more work. Also looking at the number of different
things people commit to that take up their time, as well as the number of
activities competing for ones time. The author of 'Ishmael' addresses many
of these points in his works. Thus the topic a bit ago about there being
'too many events'.

We were recently trying to come up with a time to hold a revel locally and
it was nigh on impossible to find a weekend that didn't compete with
something else. The only times when we were able to find gaps in the
schedule in the region were filled in by wars in other kingdoms.
