[Ansteorra] RE: Vets and teachers

Being retired from the military, and a certified teacher (I don't teach
right now because I don't want to take the pay cut) They have much in
common, lousy pay, poor working conditions, and under appreciated by many.
I was in a Marine Corps band when the hostages came home from Iran. We
toured the country with them, playing parades to cheering people. 30 of the
40 piece band spent at least one tour in Vietnam. They did not get a parade
when they came home. I did not spend 21 year in the service for money,
admiration, or a holiday. I did it because I love my freedom, and I want my
family to be free. If some people around me do not respect or appreciate
that, I won't loose any sleep, because I and my family have their freedom,
and that is worth far more than a holiday or a parade.

I'm beginning to get reminded of the chicken or the egg argument... which
came first. :)

*ducks and runs*

My opinion, they're both pretty darn important, and we need to treat both
with extreme respect.

:> Here's another thought. Without teachers, of all sorts, there'd be not
:vets.
:
:>> While I fully agree that teachers rock and wholly deserve their day, I
:think
:>> technically there were veterans a plenty who serverd
:>> our relativly young country who never saw the inside of a school.
:
:>> Caladin-
:>> Son of a vet and damn proud of him
:
:Caladin is right on both accounts. My first thought when I read the
:statement at the top was that one could also make the argument that without
:our vets, we may not have teachers. But to do so, I think would continue a
:possible line of thought that, for some reason, one group is better or more
:deserving than the other. I think that both groups are deserving of praise
:and respect. As someone who is married to a teacher I'll tell you what I
:think teachers deserve more than a holiday, and that's better pay. You want
:to show teachers that you appreciate them? Pay them better!

:(And Caladin, its good that you're damn proud of him!)
