I have mixed feelings on this.  I think that if it is my significant other or close friend, I tend to be more critical of them.  I can see where people would be biased because they want their loved ones to succeed, though.  I do know that my wife is much more critical of me when it comes to whether I deserve an award or not.  When she actually agrees, however, it makes me feel like I really have accomplished something.

I think that this is the easy way out on recommending someone for awards.  My way of thinking is that if you really feel that someone should be put in for an award, then take the five minutes to write out the award recommendation for them.  I don't know how many times I have been approached with a petition award recommendation.  I have even had people get offended because I don't want to sign my name to it.  When I answer questions on award recommendations, I really try to discourage this type of procedure.

By the way, thanks for a lively and enlightening topic.  It really makes one think! LOL!
