Okay....ya *HAD* to push that button...

SOAPBOXPOSITION=On

"Honorable Lord or Lady" is *no* more correct than "His Lordship/Her
Ladyship."

*Some* Herald *somewhere* decided that this ("His Lordship" etc) was a
"Victorian affectation"...and that "The Honorable Lord", (etc), was somehow
"more appropriate."

Allow me to disabuse *everyone* of this fallacy:

Quoting the Oxford English Dictionary, 17th reprinting, May, 1979
Lordship: (Definition 5: "the personality of a lord, esp. with posessive
pronouns")
Your Lordship: a form of address to noblemen (except archbishops and dukes)
(translation mine, to allow modern text)
c. 1489: "Thys worde I have sayd afore your lordshyppes for to (etc.)
c. 1540: My poore harte myghte better have served his lordshyppe.
c. 1550-3: Beseechynge Your Hyghnes... and honorable lordshyppes.
c. 1593:(Shakespeare, Henry VI) "Cousin of Exeter, what thinkes your
Lordship?"
c. 1613: (Henry VIII) "Health to your Lordships"

(I'll forego the next *seven* entries, as they are
moderately-to-significantly post-period.)

"Your Lordship" (or "Your Ladyship") is a *completely* appropriate form of
address.
