I'd like to add a side-note to your post about one of the other astronauts.
McCool's father lives in Air Force Village where my parents live. I was
just there Saturday and we found out from the director of AFV that his dad
had just died. It could have been that Friday or Saturday morning - I
couldn't find out for sure. So the McCool's family, within 24 hours, has
lost both father and son. The flag at AFV was at half-mast for the loss of
them all, and my heart goes out to all the families for their losses.
