I don't know if this has happened at Crown, but I know personally
someone who has entered Baronial Champion or Queen's Champion Tourneys
with no intention of winning.
This gentle's limitations, decided upon to ensure fairness to
other entrants, no 'thrown' fights, etc. were as follows: He would do his
best while he was in the Tourney, but no later than the quarterfinal
round, he would go to the List mistress and drop out of the list. I'm not
certain, but I think he let the List Mistress and all other entrants know
this ahead of time.
The result is that he gets in some good bouts against people who
are in "Tourney mode", he helps weed out some of the people who simply
aren't good enough to take the title anyway, and yet he never simply
'gives a win' to anyone by yielding to them. Also, his decision not to
win does not affect the outcome of the final three rounds in the
slightest.

I think it can be done without dishonor or unfairness, it just
has to be done with proper forethought about the consequences of one's
decisions. And if someone doesn't try to think through the consequences
of their decisions, they probably shouldn't be fighting in Crown Tourney
anyway.
