That is correct. Corpora states that it can not be done by Rapier
combat,
but not that it has to be done by combat. There apparently have been
exceptions to the standard tournament. If my memory serves me right from
the conversation, there have been combined tourney with A&S selections,
tourney with melee selections, and others. I don't know that if there
have been anything that did not include a tourney though.
