Cool question!

I would suggest:

"After a Fashion" by Frances Grimble

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0963651730/qid=1042905383/sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_2/103-0657614-9635006?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

It's a neat book on reporducing and restoring vintage
styles. It has a nice section about draping for a
pattern in it and covers the Middle ages to the art
deco periods.

Also just to learn how fabric works when you are
draping or what not

"The Art of Manipulating Fabric" by Colette Wolff

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0801984963/qid=1042905459/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-0657614-9635006?v=glance&s=books

It has wonderful pictures on what a light cotton will
do when gather, pleat, smock, etc... I like it because
of the visual reference of what a certain type of
technique will do to the fabric.

I included the amazon urls so that you could go and
read the reviews there as well.

Hope to hear a lot of good titles from this post.

Delphina (who's always looking of another good book.)
