[Ansteorra] Length of court

After reading through all the talk, I think I see some possibilities.

The Crown could decree that all awards that do not require their attendance (AOA's, etc.) be given out by the Baronies at events that will not be attended by King or Queen. That takes care of 45 minutes to an hour at any event where one of them is in attendance.

As for the day's winners, why not call them up one at a time, Lord so and so -- wait for racket to die down -- heavy fighting, Lord whomsoever -- wait --rapier, etc. Have them stand at the front until all the winners are there. Give them congratulations and say you can pick up your award as you retire to your left, right, up, down, whatever works best for the site. A Herald or, better yet, the Autocrat hands them their scroll or whatever as they go back to their seats.

I know it is totally against protocol to turn your back on the head table but I would appreciate it if they could face the populace while they are waiting. I might have some small hope of connecting a name with a face.

I don't think I have ever managed to sit through an entire court. About an hour and a half in my back starts sending nasty messages, my bed is calling loudly and the grand daughter is either asleep in my arms or not fit for human society.

Surely something can be done. And I think the noise problem would drop considerably. Unfortunately, the totally inconsiderate will always be with us and should be dealt with harshly, but shorter court should help.

In service,

Nell de Percy
