Subject: Florilegium Tile Display at Pennsic

Perhaps you have heard of the Florilegium Tile Display? This is a fun
little project to encourage folks to try artforms they have never done
before, as well as a display showing in a uniform way the wide variety
of artforms done in period that are done in the SCA.

The rules are:
1) Any artform that was done in period and can be placed on a tile is
acceptable, whether the artform was actually used on a tile or not.
Exambples might include a stamped leather tile, a ceramic tile, a tile
of marzipan or sugarpaste, a glass tile, a metal tile, a brass tile with
an enameled design, a illuminated tile on parchment or a carved horn
tile.

2) Each person can enter as many tiles as they wish, but only one tile
in a particular art form.

3) the design on the tile is up to the artist.

4) no doucmentation is required, unless it is an art form that may not
be known to be period. But documentation is encouraged to help spread
the word about this artform.

5) The tiles must be between one and one and half inches tall, so other
tiles can be seen. A thin media, such as parchment, can be placed on a
thicker backing such as wood.

6) The tile size can be any multiple of four inches up to 24 inches by
24 inches.

We will display these tiles in a grid and there will be a log or poster
detailing what tile is at what coordinates. Thus you will be able to
identify the tile and the list will be on the web so you can identify
the tiles in your photos later.

You can find out more about this project at:

Pennsic is the second of three display events. The last will be in
September at the Known World A&S Collegium in Phoenix.

The Pennsic display will be held on Tuesday, August 12 from 10 until 3
in or just outside the Pennsic barn. Not that this not the originally
scheduled and announced day because of a scheduling conflict.

I know that time is short now to create a tile, although you could
actually make one at Pennsic, but even if you can't make a tile I
encourage you to come by and see what the artists of the SCA have done.

Nobles and Peers are especially encouraged to come by, admire the work
and perhaps leave some largess at the tiles you like the best.

Please feel free to pass this information on.
