I really like the idea of using grass hula skirts as thatch roofs. I believe
the "good" costume hula skirts are possibly made from raffia. It is about
1/4 to 1/2 inch wide, flat, dried, grass looking stuff, and straw colored. Sorry
I have not thoroughly checked out the details on what raffia is made from,
but it can be found at Hobby Lobby etc.

If it turned out to not be rain-friendly, the decorative cover could be
removed before bad weather, and would give a nice period appearance.
