Okay. But it would be flat, right? So straight on it might look like
thatch, but would it look like thatch from and angle or down below
looking up? It would certainly pack better though.

As to making dome tents look period, I have a picture in the
Florilegium of a late period German tent where the overall shape looks
very much like a small modern dome tent. Perhaps a simple cloth cover
to disguise the nylon might be all that is needed.
