[Ansteorra] Question

Greetings!

Being a mother of two boys, age 12 and 13, and having watched them grow up
here in the SCA, we find that their favorite events are those that are the
largest. It gives them more to do and more to have a chance to become
involved. They enjoy Gothic War, Gulf War (in Mississippi), Steppes Warlord,
and Elfsea Defender. Three Kings (or Three Queens, this year) and Namron
are also fun. Next summer's Celebration of Ansteorra's 25th anniversary will
be huge!

Read the event announcements, both in the Black Star and on-line. Many have
Youth Rapier and/or Youth combat tournaments or training at the event. Some
events have started having teen parties.

If they like dancing, take them to an event with dancing or dance classes.
They might like the archery, so look for events with archery. This age group
is growing rapidly in the SCA, so they will probably be able to get involved
fairly easily. You just have to remember that you must be in attendance at
the field to watch them if they are doing any archery, rapier, or combat
fighting.

We, too, have to do the balancing act between church, school, scouting, SCA,
alternating weekends for my step-son.

Good Luck,

Mistress Xene

Subject: [Ansteorra] Question

What are the best events for 12-14 year olds?

We're trying to plan which events to attend, and besides studying the
web sites to determine which weekends we can go, and how far we can
drive, I'm wondering if there are specific events which are
particularly good for youth?

With full JR high schedules, getting to weekly meetings is proving
frutile; I was thinking that we enjoyed the collegium we attended, what
else educational happens at events?
