I completely agree.  I know its nice to anticipate how things might affect us, but really the economy overall isn't that bad yet.  I've seen it much worse over the past 15 years.  The hike in gas prices is a significant percentage over what those prices have been in recent years, but by itself it isn't enough to effect my eventing if all other factors remain equal. 

Eventing, for me, is a fairly inexpensive form of entertainment.  If anyone else out there is like me, I end up spending just as much (or more if I do gratuitous shopping) when I stay home over the weekend - between eating out, movies, etc.

I found out a long time ago that the majority of my expense from playing SCA isn't in travel costs.  For me, its the toys I buy (fabric, armour, weapons, art supplies, drums, jewelry, trim).

A note about the Crown's expenses...thanks to some changes in recent years Ansteorra is very generous with its allowance for in-kingdom travel.  I believe the Crown is allowed twice the reimbursement they received, say, five years ago.  Gas prices are higher, but they aren't 50% higher, so they'll have to top $2.25 a gallon to put us back on par with what the Crown received vs. expense back then.
