1. What attracted you to the SCA?
Besides armoured combat..... the studies in cultural geography.
2. What is your perspective of what the SCA is to you?
It has always been my escape from the daily real life rat-race. Not to
mention, some of my dearest long-time friends are in the SCA.
3. Where do you invest the most time and energy in the SCA (household, local
group, kingdom, specific activity)?
Lately, my schedule hasn't permitted any activity. But when possible,
I'm more in-tune with the heavy tournaments than anything else.
4. How long before you started to take initiative in the SCA (applying for
an office, organizing an activity, etc.?)
Other than squirely duties, single-mom time, and military service... a
few years. Later in Trimaris, I was a youth combat marshal for 2 years, the
Kingdom Youth Combat Marshal's "drop dead" until he shipped to Iraq, then
maintained the kingdom office myself until returning to Ansteorra last year.
5. Were there instances that could have "run you out of the SCA"..why did
they not...or why did you come back?
Yes, there was a time I stepped out for personal reasons, then returned
6 months later when a very dear friend requested I attend his coronation. I
stayed when he and others made kind efforts to ensure I felt welcome.
6. How long before you burned out? Why did you burn out? Is there anything
anyone could have done to help keep you from "burning out"?
It took about 8 years, then again last year. I burned out when others
abused their power as royals and/or peers.... using it for personal gain or
to hurt others. (Not in Ansteorra, mind you).
7. What do you get out of the SCA?
Release. It's where I can go to find friends who enjoy the same
hobbies/interests/sport as I do.
8. If you have your AoA...how long did you get it after starting to
participate in the SCA?
About 2 years after starting the SCA.... about 6 months after arriving
in Ansteorra (from Atlantia).
9. And last but not least...why do you think that people should join the SCA
and stay in it?
That's totally up to the person. There are so many aspects of the SCA to
interest a broad range of personalities. Should a person take part in more
than one of these activites, then their chances of remaining in the society
will last that much longer. It also depends on the friendships built within
the group. Who wants to stick around if they don't have friends to share
intersts with?
